Which Came First: The Campaign or the New-Fangled Word?

Summary: Apple trademarked it, Sesame Street sang about it, and the American Dialect Society voted for it. The winning word of the year is “app.” Should we really be surprised? This popular word, which happens to be the first three letters of the brand that created it (“App-le,” coincidence or not), was also the basis for their very memorable and ongoing “There’s an App for That” campaign. A word uttered so often that it became part of our daily vernacular, even if foreign at first to many ears, sort of like “tweet.”
