Advertising and the Demise of the Evening News

Summary: As the death knell sounds for the evening news, a few culprits worth blaming may have gone unmentioned. One is advertising.

This is not because ad rates have dropped for evening news shows or because demographics have skewed to older viewers. Simply put, the ads that run during the evening news are unwatchable.

It seems as though the majority of commercials that run during news broadcasts are for prescription drugs, with the vast majority targeting an audience close to retirement. No one enjoys watching these commercials.
